The honest answer: it depends on four things

Website pricing in Portugal varies enormously, from a few dozen euros for a template site to tens of thousands for a bespoke enterprise platform. For the vast majority of Algarve small businesses, the relevant range is EUR299 to EUR2,000. Here is what puts you at each end of that range.

1. Number of pages

A 3-page site covering Home, About, and Contact is straightforward and fast to build. A 10-page site with service pages, a portfolio, a blog, and a multilingual version takes significantly more time. More pages means more cost.

2. Functionality required

A basic information site with a contact form is the simplest build. Add an online booking system, a reservation calendar, an e-commerce shop, or a multilingual toggle, and the price increases proportionally. Each additional feature adds both build time and ongoing maintenance.

3. Design approach

A site built on a pre-made template with your logo and text dropped in costs less than a site designed from scratch around your brand, industry, and customer. Both can look professional, but they perform differently in terms of conversion and differentiation.

4. SEO and ongoing support

A website built with no attention to SEO will not rank on Google, regardless of how it looks. A properly optimised site, with correct technical structure, local keyword targeting, schema markup, and Google Business Profile integration, costs more to build but delivers far more value over time.

The Sul Digital position

We price at EUR299 for the Starter package and EUR499 for the Business package because we build for the Portuguese market, not the London agency market. You get professional quality at rates calibrated for local business economics. Full pricing on our main pricing page.

Why cheap websites cost more in the long run

A EUR99 template website that nobody finds and that loads slowly on mobile is not a business asset. It is a liability. You have the ongoing cost of hosting, the time cost of maintaining it yourself, and zero return on the investment because no customer ever finds it through Google.

A properly built EUR499 website that ranks for local searches and generates two extra enquiries per month pays for itself within the first quarter and continues generating value indefinitely. The relevant comparison is not the upfront cost. It is the return.

What drives up the cost most

In our experience, three things push website costs above the standard range for Algarve businesses:

  • E-commerce. Adding a functional online shop with product management, payment processing, and order fulfilment adds significant complexity and cost. Budget EUR800 minimum for a serious e-commerce build.
  • Multilingual requirements. A genuinely multilingual site, with properly translated content and hreflang SEO implementation for English, Portuguese, German, and Dutch, adds time and therefore cost. Budget an extra EUR200 to EUR400 per additional language.
  • Custom photography. Stock photography is free. Good custom photography of your business, team, products, or property is not. Professional photography for an Algarve business typically costs EUR300 to EUR800. It is almost always worth it.

Should I use Wix, Squarespace, or a professional build?

Template builders like Wix and Squarespace are useful for testing an idea or building a temporary landing page. For a serious Algarve business trying to rank on Google and compete in a local market, they have significant limitations.

Template builder sites are harder to optimise for local SEO, load more slowly, give you less control over technical structure, and tend to look generic. A professional build lets you control every element that matters for Google rankings and customer conversion.
